Password management for ISPs and MSPs

Towers, backhaul, OLTs, client routers and technicians who come and go. How to keep every login safe and every technician fast.

Running an internet provider or a managed-services company means you hold the keys to a lot of other people's networks. The passwords are the easy part to lose track of: towers, backhaul, OLTs, customer routers, cloud panels, and the technicians who come and go. Here is how to organise that so it is safe and still fast.

Structure it the way your business works

  • Clients and sites. Group every device and login under the client or tower it belongs to. In NettForge, a client is a first-class thing, with its own devices, connection method, notes and history.
  • Shared folders with roles. Give each team (support, installs, NOC) the folders it needs, and no more. Roles decide who can view, edit or manage.
  • Per-client keys. On the MSP plan, each client has its own encryption key (Client Wall), locked to the technicians assigned to it. Someone who was never given a client can never open its logins, even by mistake.
  • Time-limited access. Access Pass (Business and MSP) lets a contractor or a junior see a login for a set time and no longer.

Make the daily work faster, not slower

Security that slows technicians down gets bypassed. NettForge puts the secure path first:

  • Keychain Login and WinBox quick connect log into devices without anyone typing or seeing the password.
  • The network toolbox (is it up, path test, speed test, link health) runs from the same app, saved to the client's history.
  • Per-client WireGuard tunnels run inside the Windows app, so two clients with the same address range never clash.
  • Scheduled monitors and SLA reports show you what was down and for how long.

When people join, move or leave

Onboarding is adding a technician to groups. Offboarding is the risky part: they knew passwords that still work. The leaver checklist walks through it, and Leaver Lockdown (Business and MSP) changes RouterOS device passwords and checks the result for you.

Showing clients you are in control

The MSP plan adds branded client reports and free client users, so your customers can see their own network status and documents without access to anyone else's. That turns "we look after your network" into something visible.

Questions people ask

On the MSP plan every client has its own key (Client Wall). A technician only gets the keys of the clients they are assigned to, so one client's logins cannot be opened by someone who was never given access.

You remove them from the groups, and on the Business and MSP plans you can run Leaver Lockdown to change the real device passwords they knew. See the leaver checklist.

Yes. Teams, Business and MSP plans include an audit log and a login trail, so you can see who used which login and when.
